Our Equine Staff

THEN

NOW

VIOLET'S story is typical of so many that we hear about. She was part of a breeding operation in Nevada that went belly up. The breeder stopped feeding the foals and then in a desperate move sent them all to an auction to be sold for food or for the Mexican rodeos. In 2008 thisThouroughbred/Quarter horse came to us as a frightened and severely malnourished yearling. Violet is particularly smart, athletic and lovely to look at. She is eager to be chosen first for horse/human activities. She seems to take on her new tasks with ease whether it be trail riding, dressage, cow work or teaching clients to read the body messages of horses. To read about her journey, click here

ROSE is a QH/Draft cross rescued PreMarIn foal from North Dakota. In 2001 my sister and I saw a photo on a rescue website for a group of foals on their way to a feedlot. Something inspire me to take a chance on the unknown. Four weeks later she appeared. A tiny weak and sickly baby who rose to the occasion. Now an adult she is the lead mare of this herd. At times stubborn and opinionated, Rose is the perfect blend of confidence, power, leadership.

AUGUST is a rescued paint PreMarIn foal from the Saskatchewan province of Canada. He is handsome and willing. Naughty and clever. "Rock star" good looks and natural animal magnetism make him irresistible. In 2009 he made his debut in the Tournament of Roses Parade and has appeared in two independent short films including one with Dax Shepard and Tom Arnold.

Wizard

WIZARD is the sage of the group. As the leader of the herd this beautiful paint horse keeps everyone in line with his clear attitude of justice. He is wise beyond his years and offers much insight and clarity. Many people connect to his "old soul" and find him very peaceful to be around.

Jesse

Jewell

JEWEL AND JESSE JAMES. Our mini's were relocated from central Oregon when their previous human could no longer care for them. Provocative and amusing, they are terrific with children. They are also great examples of how "size doesn't matter" especially when it comes to claiming your own space!

Cowboy

COWBOY- We found this guy discarded at a feedlot in 2009. This ragtag three year old, covered in bites and cuts. turned out to be a fancy gaited spotted saddle horse. He is shy yet friendly, cautious and curious, loyal and playful. Learning to trust humans, possibly for the first time, Cowboy's innate horsenality makes him acutely aware of our energy and body language therefore allowing those around him to really get a feel of how subtle our non verbal cues can be.

Willow

WILLOW was discovered on Craigslist.com. She is a stunning registered APHA black and white filly that was on her way to a slaughter auction along with 300 other horses from a breeder who ran out of money. Luckily they were intercepted and she found her way to t.h.e. ranch. She assists us in our energy work. Client is in with the horse "one on one" with out a rope or halter. There is no visible connection therefore they can explore how they can affect each other with clear and immediate feedback.

Davy

DAVY, the youngest one of the herd was adopted as a yearling from a Nevada feedlot in the summer of 2011. He was sure to be vealed out but was rescued just in time and brought here to add to our growing equine staff. Extraordinarily sweet and out going and sure to add yet another beautiful color to our equine palette.

JACK

JACK-Originally purchased by a family for his flashy markings as a green four year old for a beginner youth rider. The lack of experience of both horse and rider led to his eventual sale . For the next three years, Jack would be shuffled through different owners who could not understand his exuberant playful "personality". He ended up here through the kind heart of my sister who fostered him lovlingly at her Arizona ranch for a year. He has now found a home with our equine family and is a favorite with our students and volunteers alike.
